“The Engine of the Avenging Angels” is the cover of one of my novels in progress. Here, I was seeking the iconography of the Sacred Heart. The barbed wire is for the pains that all of our sacred hearts suffer.
A writer and artist (she does the cover paintings for her books), Bethany A. Beeler was born and raised in the Pittsburgh, PA area. After college, she settled in Texas for the next 37 years with her wife Pamalyn, raising three children, and mayoring the city of Krum, TX. She's been a professor, teacher, and tech writer. Her favorite artists and authors include Van Gogh, James Turrell, Caravaggio, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jenny Lawson, C.S. Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Joseph Conrad, and Robert Penn Warren. She now lives in Colorado with Pam, and three cats of disaster, Big'uns, Frank, and Possum.
